What are we playing? What are we doing? What of donuts?

Transcript
Hello.
Speaker B:Yeah, this is the Discrete Air weekly update.
Speaker A:Oh, hi.
Speaker C:I've been waiting for this. So excited.
Speaker B:You and everyone else. Motherfuckers.
Speaker C:There it is.
Speaker A:There it is.
Speaker B:Yeah. So this is the weekly update for the week of June 9, 2023, the year of our Lord.
Speaker C:Yes, sir.
Speaker B:2023.
Speaker A:And we're doing good. Are you doing good?
Speaker C:I'm doing great. We just closed on a house.
Speaker B:Oh, God, that was fast.
Speaker A:Yeah, it was. Yeah. Hot damn.
Speaker C:Closed yesterday morning.
Speaker B:Got the nice is it a nice house?
Speaker C:I think so.
Speaker A:It's not.
Speaker C:I mean, it's for the area. It's really fucking nice. I mean, it's, you know, nicer than this place, nicer than the last place we lived, so yeah, it's nice.
Speaker B:Do you have a paw layer? A pod dungeon?
Speaker C:No, we don't. The basement is not pod ready.
Speaker B:Are you going to remodel the basement to be pod ready?
Speaker C:Not anytime soon, no.
Speaker A:But maybe someday.
Speaker C:But I got a room.
Speaker A:I got an office, I should say.
Speaker C:That I'll be putting this stuff in.
Speaker A:So yeah, it'll be fun.
Speaker B:Sick.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker B:Sweet. Well, I don't think I have any big life news like that.
Speaker C:Well, you had a birthday though, didn't you?
Speaker B:I did. I did have a birthday. Ya boy is 34 years.
Speaker C:It's all downhill from here.
Speaker B:Endless march to the grave.
Speaker C:That's right. That's fucking right. Yeah, it just keeps going downhill, dude.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:It never gets any better.
Speaker A:No.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Life is a fuck. You get it. Oh, I get it.
Speaker B:But that's why we have video games. To take our minds off the endless abyss.
Speaker A:What a segue.
Speaker B:So what have you been playing this week?
Speaker A:Well, I have been playing a little.
Speaker C:Bit as it sounded like we've been very busy, the wife and I. But I did get a chance to download Diablo for oh, shit. Just getting I mean, just maybe 2 hours, 3 hours into it. Loving it. So far.
Speaker A:Rolled myself up.
Speaker C:What I make? I made a fucking druid because I hate myself and I want to make every video game experience as hard as possible. So I rolled up a nice druid and I'm just finding my way around. I'm just learning. I'm just learning and I'm fucking loving it's.
Speaker A:So fun. Question.
Speaker C:Answer.
Speaker B:Did you take the cowards way out and start on world one or did you go to world two for Diablo veterans?
Speaker C:No, I went to world one. I'm a coward. Coward, coward, coward.
Speaker A:I'm a coward.
Speaker B:Well, I also went and picked up Diablo Four on my birthday.
Speaker A:Beautiful.
Speaker B:On the 6th, Satan's Day and rolled myself a nice little necromancer.
Speaker A:See, that's the easy way out, though.
Speaker B:Oh, 100% overpowered. But I went to world two to offset it.
Speaker C:Okay, so you kind of wound up level.
Speaker B:Yeah, and I'm probably like four ish hours in. Four or 5 hours in. I love it.
Speaker C:Oh my God, it's so good.
Speaker B:Absolutely love it.
Speaker C:Good.
Speaker B:I did not expect for it to basically clear my mind of Tears of the Kingdom so quick, really, but it basically has. Okay, you're basically only thinking of Diablo now.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker C:It's so fucking good.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Everyone was all worried and I'm like, I don't know, every Diablo has kind.
Speaker A:Of been a banger.
Speaker B:I mean, even three with the problems when it first came out, it was still a banger. It still played well.
Speaker C:It's still a good game. It's just there were issues with basically the economy.
Speaker B:Yeah. And this one has the standard Blizzard.
Speaker A:Fare of day one connectivity issues.
Speaker C:Yeah, I probably logged on at like, eleven last night, so I think most of those were out of the way for me.
Speaker B:Yeah, I played a little today and was booted once.
Speaker C:Yeah, I think I was booted once today as well.
Speaker A:Might have been around the same time.
Speaker B:But other than that it seems pretty smooth.
Speaker C:Yeah, surprisingly smooth for that.
Speaker B:And it seems very polished and it looks, like, incredible. Obviously, Blizzard is the best in the game when it comes to cinematics. Like, all the cinematics in this game are absolutely fucking nuts.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker C:They're fucking insane.
Speaker B:The music's incredible. It controls like you want it to. Yeah, I do like the skill tree changes. They've done.
Speaker C:I'm warming up to them. I'll say I didn't love them at first, but I'm warming up to them.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Because my goal is to do my first play through without doing, like, a quality build.
Speaker C:Right. I'm doing the same thing, winging it.
Speaker B:So I've picked, like, the dark path of the Necromancer. So more reaping than, like, ranged attacks. I like a little melee.
Speaker A:Sure.
Speaker B:Melee action.
Speaker A:Sure.
Speaker B:And so far.
Speaker A:I wouldn't say I'm.
Speaker B:Blowing through enemies, but I can handle myself a bit.
Speaker C:I feel like the genius of at least from my memory of Three and.
Speaker A:Now this one is that they do such a subtle ramp up of, like, difficulty.
Speaker C:Like, in the beginning, you never feel like, this is too hard. You feel like you're not walking through, but you feel like you're earning it but not struggling. And once in a while you'll hit that peak where you're like, shit, this is hard, I might die. And then you upgrade and you're like, okay, I'm back to how I was feeling. They've always done a masterful job at making you feel that way, I think.
Speaker B:Yeah, I can agree with that. In fact, I've died once.
Speaker C:Yeah, I think I've died a couple of times.
Speaker B:I died in a world event.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:Yeah. Because I walked into it and there was like a bunch of level, like, 30s, like, fighting this thing and I was like, oh, shit, easy XP.
Speaker A:Easy XP. Yeah.
Speaker B:No and no.
Speaker C:Dead.
Speaker A:Dead. Murdered. Yes, sir.
Speaker B:Destroyed. And what they also do a good job of is hooking you lootwise immediately.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker B:Off the bat. You're like, oh, shit, I'm getting all kinds of gear, right?
Speaker A:And you're like, oh, cool.
Speaker B:Now I've strategically saved my money to upgrade this gear. And then you spend all this gold to upgrade the gear and then just immediately get another drop. That's better than fully upgraded.
Speaker C:Every time.
Speaker B:Every time I'm getting rot. And I love it.
Speaker A:I love it.
Speaker C:The itch is definitely scratched. I'm going to be spending a lot of time between houses. So I don't think I'm going to play it for really dig into it for a while.
Speaker A:But I'm excited for what those few.
Speaker C:Hours here and there that I get to play it, I'm really looking forward to because it's so fucking fun.
Speaker B:Yeah. And I feel like it's a kind of game that there's not a lot I don't think there's another game that.
Speaker A:Kind of fills that void when there's not a Diablo. Right.
Speaker B:For a while. And this game was before Diablo, obviously. But Balder's gate was that game? And then Diablo kind of entered the realm, the space that Balder's Gate occupied. But we haven't had a new Balder's Gate. I mean, they remastered Balders Gate one and Two.
Speaker A:Like a couple of years ago. Three years ago.
Speaker B:And that's cool.
Speaker A:That was great.
Speaker B:But now we're getting a new Balder's Gate this year, too.
Speaker A:That'd be interesting.
Speaker B:It is the dungeon crawler year. And I yeah, it is here for it.
Speaker C:You're fucking here for it?
Speaker B:I am here for it.
Speaker C:And this is going to throw Game of the Year every fucking month. There's a new thing where I'm like, you could make a case for this now.
Speaker B:Absolutely.
Speaker A:It's so good.
Speaker C:I haven't played.
Speaker B:This is turning out to be a nuts year.
Speaker C:Nuts for game. Nuts.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Absolutely insane.
Speaker A:From the Dead Space remake right to.
Speaker B:The Metroid Prime remaster Resident Evil Four remake. Tears of the Kingdom. Now Diablo Four Starfield is either going to be Game of the Year or Turd of the Year.
Speaker C:Turd of the year. Yeah.
Speaker B:If it even fucking comes out.
Speaker C:September. Right?
Speaker A:They're saying allegedly. Allegedly. Oh, boy.
Speaker B:And we're getting a Silent Hill Two remake this year. This is the year of sequels, right?
Speaker A:Of course. Yeah.
Speaker B:Has there been like a non sequel, non remake that's like really kind of just fucking killed it this year?
Speaker A:This year? I can't think of one. Can't think of one either.
Speaker C:It just like lit the world on fire, right?
Speaker A:No. Yeah.
Speaker C:I can't think of one. It's all sequels and remakes.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Last year I think there was a couple last year. Stray. Stray was amazing.
Speaker C:Stray was incredible.
Speaker A:Yes. But yeah, this year, it's the year.
Speaker B:Of remakes and sequels, which it's fine.
Speaker A:Yeah. I mean, listen, we like what we like.
Speaker C:And they're going to keep going it until we demand something new. But every once in a while, something will come along that isn't a sequel remake.
Speaker A:And hopefully those become more common. But yeah, we're little Piggies, give us our slop.
Speaker C:Yeah, I guess the biggest new IP will be Starfield.
Speaker A:But, I mean, can you even call.
Speaker C:That a new game?
Speaker A:Because it's just not reskinned.
Speaker C:But it's skyrim. Fallout.
Speaker B:It's just the same space Skyrim.
Speaker C:Yeah, exactly. It's just the same idea. I haven't played it. I haven't looked at it. The event is like, in a couple of weeks, or might be next week. Yeah, but I am not going to think there's going to be anything revolutionary in there, any gameplay mechanic. They're just bolting on all the new.
Speaker A:Elements, which is fine, those elements work.
Speaker C:But it's not a new game, it's just a new story. And you got laser pistols instead of.
Speaker A:Swords or power armor.
Speaker B:I think it's bold even saying that it could be Space Skyrim, because that's saying it's going to be as good as Skyrim, which is doubtful at this point, I guess. But also, I mean, I didn't love Skyrim. I'm one of the eight people who didn't care for it.
Speaker C:The thing about Skyrim to me was that the framework was good, it was.
Speaker A:A great game, but the thing that.
Speaker C:Set it apart, and I don't think they ever did this with Fallout and any of their other games, even their.
Speaker A:Other Elder Scrolls games, was the fucking.
Speaker C:Chaos that could happen. It was such an alive world and there were so many different things going on. I remember a time where I was doing a quest where I had to assassinate a bride during a wedding or something, and I did it and the whole fucking castle was after me. So I was running down this fucking hill and I wound up in a camp of Nords or whatever, and they started attacking me, and then a fucking dragon came in the middle of it. And so it was just like the level of just like, storytelling that I'm telling to people about and memories of it. I don't think they've hit that if they can hit that with Skyrim, if they can hit that with Starfield, then they might have something.
Speaker B:It's funny you say that. I feel that way, kind of about Fallout Four.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:I feel like Fallout Four and maybe.
Speaker A:It'S that Skyrim is not my, I guess, aesthetic.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:I don't love that when it comes.
Speaker B:To swords and dragons and shit like that. I much prefer Baldard gate Diablo, that kind of deal. But fallout.
Speaker A:I think fallout.
Speaker B:I think fallout. Four was incredible.
Speaker C:Of course. No, yeah, absolutely. I'm not going to argue that, but I never had that kind of experience with Fallout. But you did. See, that's what's interesting to me.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:So, I mean, maybe they can't pull it out. I hope so.
Speaker C:I hope so.
Speaker A:Just for the sake of, like or.
Speaker C:Else we're just going to keep talking about how fucking in trouble Xbox and Microsoft is for another year and oh, fuck, it's a boring story. They need a w right now. Come on.
Speaker B:Absolutely.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:But we've also it's weird to think about this in the context of, like, a Game of the Year thing.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker B:But what if Shadow of the Urge Tree is, like, so good that it's the first DLC to ever win Game of the Year?
Speaker C:That'd be fucking awesome. I'd love that happen.
Speaker B:That might actually that would be incredible. I can't wait for that. That's the thing that would pull me.
Speaker A:Away from Diablo at this point.
Speaker B:We are getting a new entry. Diablo Three came out, what, ten years ago?
Speaker A:Yeah, I think Ten, another franchise that.
Speaker B:Was seemed dead is also making a.
Speaker A:Comeback in August with Armored Corps.
Speaker C:Yeah, I'm excited for that.
Speaker B:Fires of the Rubicon. I am stoked.
Speaker A:Yeah. Armored Corps, I have limited experience with.
Speaker C:It, but I've enjoyed it.
Speaker A:I just know that if there are.
Speaker C:People who are super so fucking into those earlier games absolutely. One of those degrees where you're like, I can never touch that. I played it, but I didn't have the love, so I'm interested to check it out.
Speaker B:But all the PS One armored core games are, like, impossible.
Speaker C:Yeah, of course.
Speaker B:There is so much detail in it, and they made it a little easier, I think, in like, Two and three. And I think Two and Three on PS Two are great, which we definitely ain't got to do on Armor Core, too. I like the franchise a lot, and I'm stoked that it's coming back. I feel like, from Soft right now. I mean, is there another studio that's on this, like, much of a heater? Right? When's the last time from Sock did a game that didn't blow everyone away?
Speaker A:No.
Speaker B:Dark Souls two, maybe.
Speaker A:Yeah, maybe.
Speaker B:But, like, Dark Souls Three blew everyone away. Dark Souls remaster blew everyone away. Sekiro game of the Year, eldon Ring.
Speaker A:Game of the year are bloodborne.
Speaker B:They can't stop. Can't stop. Won't stop, I guess.
Speaker A:Won't stop.
Speaker B:I think Bloodborne was the turning point right after Bloodborne. Bloodborne was such a massive hit, kind of out of nowhere.
Speaker A:I feel like it was pretty out of nowhere.
Speaker B:And they've just been on one ever since.
Speaker A:Yeah, we'll see.
Speaker C:I'm excited. If Armored Corps hits like that, then if that's going to be in the.
Speaker A:Game of the Year conversation, what a fucking year?
Speaker B:And from what I understand, it's the same director as Sekiro.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:So it's not Miyazaki directing it, but Miyazaki directed it in its initial phase.
Speaker A:Interesting. Okay.
Speaker B:Which is exactly what happened with Sekiro. Miyazaki directed it in its, like, beginning phase, and then this guy took over.
Speaker A:And then boom, boom.
Speaker B:So maybe that's the sauce. Maybe that's the magic sauce. Could be for non Souls born games.
Speaker C:Would you say that's in August?
Speaker A:September?
Speaker B:Yeah, I think it's August.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker B:I've already got my preorder.
Speaker A:Can't wait.
Speaker C:I ain't about the preorder.
Speaker A:I can't do it.
Speaker B:I did the preorder. Speaking of preorder. I mean, I preordered Diablo Four. How good does Diablo four look on P. S?
Speaker C:Five.
Speaker B:Holy.
Speaker C:It's incredible.
Speaker A:In fuck incredible.
Speaker B:Oh, my God.
Speaker C:It's the first I would say the first game on P. S. Five that I've been like, okay, now they're starting to squeeze the stuff out of it. Because I didn't really see much of a difference in a lot of the.
Speaker A:Games from PS Four to PS Five.
Speaker C:But this one, I see the difference.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And there is no way it looks this good on PS Four. No.
Speaker C:And it's so smooth.
Speaker B:The mini fridge. That is the Series X. Yeah.
Speaker C:It just plays so smooth. Like, it's just so good.
Speaker B:Yeah. I haven't seen other than the connectivity stuff, I haven't seen a single performance issue.
Speaker A:No cutting.
Speaker B:No, everything feels great.
Speaker C:Yeah, it feels right.
Speaker B:The dungeons look incredible. I have, like a little Bow surround sound thing. The game sounds incredible. I could just talk all day. I could just talk all day about Diablo.
Speaker C:I need a better sound system. I need to start now that we're.
Speaker A:In a fucking house that we own. I can actually start not just we.
Speaker C:Need a sound system.
Speaker B:I'm just using computer especially to play Diablo.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker C:I mean, I've got the good the.
Speaker A:Sony, which I think are great.
Speaker C:The Sony wireless headset, I think they're great. They're not amazing, but they're good.
Speaker A:It sounds good, but I want to.
Speaker C:Fucking feel that shit on my chest.
Speaker B:Yeah, I played it a little bit with the pulse headset. The PS. Five pulse headset. It sounds great in that.
Speaker A:It does. It really does.
Speaker B:Normally, I think, like, first party headsets.
Speaker A:Are kind of like me. Yeah.
Speaker C:They did a good job, though.
Speaker B:Really good. Especially for the money. It's like $100. I feel like to get something as good from like Turtle Beach or Razor or some shit, you'd end up paying like 200, $300.
Speaker A:Fuck all that.
Speaker C:Fuck all that.
Speaker B:Absolutely not.
Speaker A:That's spending a headset money.
Speaker C:Yeah. Good shit. Yeah. So I can't wait to dig back in. It's probably going to take me a.
Speaker A:Lot longer to really play through it.
Speaker C:Than most people because just what's going on.
Speaker A:But I'm excited for the fucking it's more fun for me. Me, too.
Speaker B:I'm slow rolling it just like I did with Cheers King. I'm doing all the side quests.
Speaker A:Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Speaker C:You got to do side quests.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Finding hobos who, like, stole something or whatever.
Speaker A:Fuck yeah.
Speaker B:Smashing everything. That's diablo veteran shit. You smash everything. Never not be swinging your weapon.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker C:There's no point. There is no point to not break everything.
Speaker B:There is loot everywhere.
Speaker A:Everywhere.
Speaker B:ABL. Always be Luton.
Speaker C:There it is always be Luton.
Speaker B:Well, thank you guys for listening. And make sure you smash that, like, button subscribe button. Fill out our we have questions polls. Yeah. The question thing. That's a poll.
Speaker A:A poll. If it were yes, fill out our.
Speaker B:Polls on Spotify subscribe. Hit fucking instagram.
Speaker C:Tell your friends. Tell people on the reddits.
Speaker B:Tell people if you think this shit sucks. Tell someone you hate.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker C:You're bright.
Speaker B:They can hate. Listen to it.
Speaker C:What better revenge than making someone listen to a podcast you don't like?
Speaker B:Yeah. Tell someone. Be like, you know what fucking really pissed me off? If you listen to this podcast, hit them with a little reverse psychology.
Speaker C:They'll never see it coming. They'll never see it coming.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And then they'll just be like, oh, fucking shoot.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker C:Get them. Get them. Awesome.
Speaker B:Well, you can find us on social media at discretarepod on Instagram. You can also find me at Funeral casual games on Instagram.
Speaker C:I'm at Ian Golding Games.
Speaker B:And tune in every PS Tuesday for another PS Two episode, and then every Friday for our weekly update, where we do this.
Speaker C:This shit right here happens every week.
Speaker B:And it's not all video games. I feel like last week we mainly talked about I think you should leave.
Speaker C:Pretty much with good reason. Best show.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Which I have finished it, by the way.
Speaker C:So good. It's so good.
Speaker A:Perfect. Great.
Speaker B:Well, we will see you all next week.
Speaker C:See you then.
Speaker A:Down close.
