Talking Metal 9 8 23

We're here to talk about episode 7 of Peacock's "Twisted Metal" series, and I'll be honest, I think this one broke us a little bit...

Transcript
Speaker A:

Welcome back, motherfuckers, to twisted talk of Metal Town.

Speaker B:

Talking metal.

Speaker A:

Talk tick talk metal. Talk.

Speaker B:

Talk the metal with time to talk metal.

Speaker A:

Time to talk metal. Two electric boogaloo.

Speaker B:

Yeah. This is episode seven of the Metal Peacock television program.

Speaker A:

I'm so tired.

Speaker B:

Yeah, well, I'm going to get this out of the way. No jason, manzukas.

Speaker A:

No problem.

Speaker B:

Big problem. Big problem.

Speaker A:

This show is sucking the soul out of me. And not in a good way.

Speaker B:

No, not like in a fucking awesome Sci-Fi B movie from, like, the 80s.

Speaker A:

Where like oh, I was saying, like, not in your dad's car after prom way, but well done. Well done either way. Yeah. This show is just not enjoyable. Feel so tired after watching it.

Speaker B:

Yeah, it's rough. And this episode, I think most interesting thing about the series to me is how they have found different ways to make huge mistakes. Yeah, this one has. And it's right away once we get into it. Probably the biggest mistake I think they could make, they made early on. And I was shocked that they did it.

Speaker A:

I also think that as the series progresses, the just technical part of filmmaking is starting to fall apart.

Speaker B:

Yeah. They've stopped caring. They're getting close to the end. And like, we know this is shit. We can't care anymore. Put the camera wherever. Light it how you want. I don't give a fuck.

Speaker A:

There is almost an as egregious like error in this as the fucking mannequin and the exploding car.

Speaker B:

Oh, boy. I actually don't know what you're talking about. So excited to hear about it.

Speaker A:

It is so fucking bad.

Speaker B:

Wow.

Speaker A:

I hate it.

Speaker B:

I know you do. I do, too.

Speaker A:

Well, this is episode seven titled Nut House.

Speaker B:

Yep, sure.

Speaker A:

New director, Bill Benz.

Speaker B:

Damn you to hell, Bill Benz.

Speaker A:

Yeah. It's a weird choice that he's on this show. He's done mainly comedy, including he directed some episodes of The Kroll Show.

Speaker B:

I love the Kroll show.

Speaker A:

I know.

Speaker B:

Me too.

Speaker A:

He also did two episodes of Detroiters. Also very funny.

Speaker B:

Fucking amazing show.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Wow.

Speaker A:

He directed some episodes of Son of Zorn, which I've never seen.

Speaker B:

I don't know what that like.

Speaker A:

Sounds like cartoon metal kitty bullshit. He did nine episodes of Portlandia Funny, which is a decent enough show.

Speaker B:

Yeah. So they think this is a comedy, I think. Sure.

Speaker A:

Yeah, it's a comedy. Well, sorry, Bill Benz, but fuck you.

Speaker B:

You're putting on blast. I love it. Love to hear. Yeah.

Speaker A:

Fuck you for this.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Last week was the bottle episode where they're at the restaurant fucking in the ball pit.

Speaker B:

Yeah. Who cares?

Speaker A:

And this week starts out with a flashback.

Speaker B:

It sure fucking does.

Speaker A:

And what I think is so far, the best title card of the whole show.

Speaker B:

You mean the slam cut to title card at the end? Cold open. Yeah, sure. I agree.

Speaker A:

The cold open itself is dog shit.

Speaker B:

Oh, boy. Is it?

Speaker A:

But I like the little card. So it starts out and it's a Sweet Tooth flashback. We're getting backstory for a guy who never in the history of fucking video games needed a backstory.

Speaker B:

But we don't know that right away. It's not said. We just figure that out.

Speaker A:

Yeah. Have you seen Nope? You watch? Nope.

Speaker B:

Right. Of course. That's the first thing.

Speaker A:

Like a rip off of Nope in.

Speaker B:

A very strange way.

Speaker A:

Yeah. It's like they got the wrong idea from that Nope scene.

Speaker B:

They fucking did. That's absolutely correct. They did not understand what that scene was about.

Speaker A:

So we find out that Sweet Tooth was a child actor. Which makes sense, right? He's a theater kid.

Speaker B:

And it is implied that he had a catchphrase about my Sweet Tooth.

Speaker A:

Yeah. Which is so ham fisted, so fucking ham shoved in. Mean again, it makes me so tired.

Speaker B:

Makes you tired? Yeah, sure. Sure.

Speaker A:

Why not? So tired. Well, he's on a show, and the show added a co star. And that co star is a dog. Billy the dog. And he's back there. He's pissy about the dog being on the show and then getting all the laughs.

Speaker B:

The dog is? Yeah.

Speaker A:

And then we realize that his dad is actually not his dad. It's a stepdad.

Speaker B:

Yeah. Which it's a choice.

Speaker A:

Which seems like a set up for an Easter egg. So he says, if it weren't for me, you'd be living with your actual father in the back of his taxicab.

Speaker B:

Oh, that's right.

Speaker A:

Which is a twisted, metal, black Easter egg. That Sweet Tooth's father is like someone or something.

Speaker B:

Sure.

Speaker A:

I'm so tired. I hear you. So then he goes out there and they're shooting the scene in front of a live studio audience. And the set looks very similar to the Nope set.

Speaker B:

Incredibly similar.

Speaker A:

Yeah. And the dog comes on and steals the big laugh.

Speaker B:

Well, and let's stop here because for good reason I actually laughed. He's like, Where's Billy? And then there's sound effect.

Speaker A:

The toilet flushes. And the dog comes out of the bathroom with toilet paper on its which is a good bit.

Speaker B:

It's a great bit, man.

Speaker A:

Any bit on this show?

Speaker B:

Exactly what I was about to say. Funnier than anything they've done. And they think this isn't funny. Sorry, guys. You literally have bizarro humor because you did something to show that it's not funny. That's funnier than anything you can do.

Speaker A:

Absolutely. Well, Sweet Tooth loses his shit, takes some crocheting needles and stabs this dog to death in front of everyone. And he's covered in blood. And then he looks at camera and says line and smash, smash title card. And that was like the only that 3 seconds was like the best part of the episode.

Speaker B:

So this is the mistake I referred to. You have now taken Sweet Tooth from a kind of fun loving crazy person into a dog murderer. And you have made him off putting to, like, 90% of human absolutely watches you. You have ruined the character because you're too fucking stupid to understand what you're doing. Not you, obviously. Ben Bram burns. Ben.

Speaker A:

No. Whoever wrote it whoever wrote it, right? Whoever wrote it thought it'd be funny if Sweet Tooth kills this dog.

Speaker B:

Killed a dog.

Speaker A:

And it's not funny.

Speaker B:

It's not funny. It's fucking evil.

Speaker A:

Yeah. Now, I'm not saying that killing animals in TV is never funny. I don't think that's true.

Speaker B:

I think that birds from Dumb and Dumb are funny. Right?

Speaker A:

The deer from Tommy boy.

Speaker B:

Yeah, funny.

Speaker A:

Yeah, funny. Dogs, cats, that's, like, another thing. And also, just the way this is set up is not very no, it's just not funny.

Speaker B:

No, it's not. It's fucking evil. That's the only word I can come it's demented. And not in a fun loving Sweet Tooth way. This is, by the way, more in line with actual Sweet Tooth, sadly. But we've now set a tone for this show for Sweet Tooth of a character. He's not the character from the game. He's, again, this fun loving weird.

Speaker A:

He's not an antagonist.

Speaker B:

No. We're supposed to like him, and no one should like him at this point. He killed a dog with knitting needles.

Speaker A:

It's fucking terrible.

Speaker B:

Fucking terrible.

Speaker A:

But then we get out of that fucking hot trash soup and quiet, and John Doe have arrived at the walls of New Chicago, and we finally are.

Speaker B:

Going to see what's inside of New Chicago. We've heard so much about it.

Speaker A:

Yes. Psych. Absolutely not.

Speaker B:

No.

Speaker A:

So they don't know how to get in, and of course this is just exhausting. They're standing at the wall, and she's like, oh, no, let's throw a rock at it. And he's like, that's stupid. That'll never work. And it's like, okay. She throws a rock, and then a shed no more than 15ft to their right. You didn't investigate the shed?

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

The door opens, right? And they are in a scary tunnel.

Speaker B:

I got the impression the shed popped up on the ground, but I wasn't paying that close.

Speaker A:

No, just the door opened.

Speaker B:

So they didn't look at the shed before they stood at the moat to the wall. No. Okay, smart. Nope. Good writing.

Speaker A:

So they're in a scary tunnel, and we hear a voice. And if you played Resident Evil Village let's not forget, guys, this is a video game podcast.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

If you played Resident Evil Village, the voice sounds like the guy who voices the Duke in Resident Evil Village, and he's saying all kinds of creepy things come down my tunnel. And then they get the package. But first they call him out for being calypso, and he's like, what? And yeah, it's not even worth explaining. It's so fucking stupid.

Speaker B:

It's also stupid because once again, we have taken the legs out of a interesting, maybe mysterious, creepy character for cheap fucking laughs.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And again, we've switched tones from Dog Birder to joking around about Calypso. We're supposed to be laughing. Like, do you understand, people, how humans emotional fucking roller coaster doesn't whatever.

Speaker A:

No, they do not. They don't. This show is tying its own fucking shoelaces together every week.

Speaker B:

Yeah, every week. And then saying, why aren't people so bad?

Speaker A:

Then we find out that John DOE's never had pizza, let alone heard of pizza, which is also a stupid fucking joke.

Speaker B:

Yeah, mr. Never Heard of Mickey Mouse nor pizza, but he wears pop culture things and none of the songs he listened to talk about.

Speaker A:

Yeah. It seems very stupid. And then we get a Rice Aroni joke from Calypso where he says, enjoy your San Francisco treat. Stupid, stupid, stupid. And then they drive off. But they need gas. But first they have to fuck in the car, of course. And it's the least sexy scene.

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A:

It's somehow less sexy than them fucking in the ball pit.

Speaker B:

Yeah. Somehow they found a way, right? Impressive.

Speaker A:

Honestly, last week, in my head, I'm like, there's no way two people could have less fucking chemistry wrong. Than these two people in this scene wrong. They somehow have managed to lose even more chemistry and yeah, some stupid road sex scene. And then we smash to the B story, which is useless, but it's Agent Stone, and he's sitting in his car with broken sunglasses know, the car accident? And he just didn't get another pair of sunglasses. He left them broken. And then he gets a call saying that Sweet Tooth has been taken out. The outposts. Yeah. And he just comes unhinged, starts crying, and then we leave. That's it.

Speaker B:

Well, they're like and we think we know where he's or he's got to be going somewhere.

Speaker A:

Yeah. And then we get I mean, honestly, it's like Easter eggs thrown into this I think there's the most Easter eggs of any episode so far, right, in this episode. And they're all bad. So then we go to Sweet Tooth story and they arrive. And then he's giving everyone lunch capri Suns and peanut butter and jelly. And he's like, don't bitch about the flavor, and it's not funny.

Speaker B:

And remember, you just killed the dog.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

This character just killed a dog.

Speaker A:

And then we discovered that he's there for closure.

Speaker B:

Yeah. It's like a sane asylum. That it's.

Speaker A:

Blackfield asylum from twisted metal, black Easter egg.

Speaker B:

Yeah. There you.

Speaker A:

Yeah. So then they go inside, and then, boom, we're gone again. This show has short scenes. It's insane. And then Quiet and John Doe arrive at the nut house, which is the milkman pit stop.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Because they need gas, need gasoline for Evelyn. And Quiet runs into Bloody Mary, which is a somewhat obscure Easter egg, right? Because Bloody Mary is the driver of Spectre in twisted Metal black, but she is not the driver of Spectre in any other game.

Speaker B:

Right?

Speaker A:

Which led me down a rabbit hole. And Mike and Stu are actually the driver of Hammer. The drivers of hammerhead in twisted metal two Hammerhead, of course, would be taken over by Granny Dread in Twisted Metal Three from another episode.

Speaker B:

Interesting. Okay.

Speaker A:

Yeah. So Quiet runs into Bloody Mary, and wouldn't you know it, her and John Doe used to fuck.

Speaker B:

They used to be a thing.

Speaker A:

And then, I mean, again, another trope. We just run headfirst into the awkward conversation with the new girl you're sleeping with and the old girl you're sleeping with. And, boy, does he feel awkward. So awkward that his butthole is puckered. And then we have a whole joke about his puckered butthole.

Speaker B:

Well, and we're also in not Uncharted Terry, but we're into a combo of trope. We're in a trope combo because the trope before the awkward conversation in front of the new girl is the she kisses him, then punches him. So we build off that trope so they're, like, squeezing the power to really get this thing trophy.

Speaker A:

Yeah. Again, this is further evidence this show was written by Chat GPT 100%.

Speaker B:

It was. It absolutely fucking was. Yeah.

Speaker A:

And inside this nut house, we get several Easter eggs oh, yeah. By the cast of characters of Milkman that are in there. There is pizza boy from Twisted Metal Four. There is Petunia, aka drag queen, who is a drag queen from Twisted Metal Four as well. Then there is Pit Viper, which is kind of a reach because Pit Viper was only in twisted metal one. And then, of course, the man with the massive hog himself, mr. Slam Bamo. Yeah. By the way, Bloody Mary's, played by Chloe Finneman from SNL.

Speaker B:

She's on SNL.

Speaker A:

She was, I think, wow, that's pathetic. For SNL back. Check myself.

Speaker B:

Well, who gives a fuck?

Speaker A:

Yes. She started on SNL in 2019.

Speaker B:

Yeah. She does not belong on anything like that because she's not funny in this.

Speaker A:

By the way, I almost missed it because this is the egregious error I was talking about. When quiet first meets Bloody Mary outside. Bloody Mary immediately offers her cocaine yes. Off the end of a knife.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And then she goes to do a little toot little bump off her knife and just totally puts her nostril over none of the cocaine part.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And then fully on camera, snorts nothing, where the cocaine is still glued to the tip of the knife.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker A:

They forgot by the prop guy post.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And just fucking oh, my God. They couldn't even give her the vitamin B powder they give every other fucking show where they do cocaine.

Speaker B:

Nope.

Speaker A:

Like, holy shit, they're listening to this.

Speaker B:

Podcast and you just said that. And they went wait, what? What did they do?

Speaker A:

Yeah, this is, like, worse than the Starbucks cup in Game of Thrones.

Speaker B:

I think so.

Speaker A:

It's just egregious.

Speaker B:

It's egregious.

Speaker A:

It's so fucking bad.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And then they're like, oh, hey, Quiet, you want to go take a shower? And then we cut back to Blackgate. Sweet Tooth blackfield. He talks about how he was sent to blackfield. He makes a joke about Chris Kirkpatrick from NSYNC. So let me give you this joke, right? Because this is how unfunny people write jokes. This is a typical type of unfunny person joke.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

He says, no, I got kicked out of the Juvenile Award because killed his cellmate. I killed my cellmate. He was a real psycho and Stu's like, what did he do? And he says he thought Chris Kirkpatrick was the best member of NSYNC. That's the joke. It's fucking.

Speaker B:

Mean. I feel like we could just do the rest of the we could just jettison the rest of the story and do this joke and why it's bad for the rest of this podcast, because it just is so conceptually. It's bad. The execution is bad. It's half a joke. It's just fucking stupid.

Speaker A:

Yeah. This is a zero laugh show.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I'm laughing at how I'm having a hard time laughing even at how bad it is.

Speaker B:

Yeah. It's not fun bad.

Speaker A:

Yeah. So, yeah, we could do talk about how bad this joke is for the rest of it, but that would require me thinking about it, and I can't do it anymore. So then we go into his former cell and find out that when the world went to shit, he shoved his parents into the cell and they're now dead.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And he has, like, a little therapy moment. And then crushes their skeletons.

Speaker B:

Yes. Steps on them. Crunch.

Speaker A:

And then it's over. It's over.

Speaker B:

Hilarious. Isn't there something with the dog in here? Isn't it mentioned?

Speaker A:

Yeah. He says, you killed a dog. And he's like, Fuck that dog, or whatever. He's like, Fuck, buddy. He's a piece of again.

Speaker B:

This show.

Speaker A:

Is like, what it's like having a traumatic brain injury?

Speaker B:

Yes, it is.

Speaker A:

This must be what Tua from the Miami Dolphins feels like every three days when he gets a new concussion.

Speaker B:

When you see that footage of him after that play, this is what his life is. This show. Yeah. This show is like going and meeting someone at, like, a fucking Screenwriting 101 class or a comedy writing class that has been told by their parents how fucking funny they are their whole life. And then you're sitting with them and they start telling you their pitch, and you go, what the fuck is going on right now? The confidence. It's this confidence that it's funny when it's so not fucking funny.

Speaker A:

This is someone who did that UCB Intro to Improv class, like, five times. They will not graduate him to the second class.

Speaker B:

No. Which I think you just have to show up at the showcase at the end to graduate. But that's funny. Yeah.

Speaker A:

He definitely paid for these classes.

Speaker B:

100%. This feels like Daddy ran the network or something. This is brutal, this fucking writing.

Speaker A:

Yeah. This is some nepotism or AI.

Speaker B:

Still AI.

Speaker A:

But I had a moment during this episode where I genuinely sat there and considered that maybe I died.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

And that this is hell. Hell is having to watch this.

Speaker B:

Yeah. So we got three more episodes of Hell. Yeah.

Speaker A:

So I've converted to Islam.

Speaker B:

Okay. Fair.

Speaker A:

Asalam alikum.

Speaker B:

Yeah. The other thing that they say yeah.

Speaker A:

Because I can't take any chances. If this is what Hell is like, I can't I can't be risking it. Can't risk it to get the biscuit.

Speaker B:

Yeah. No, I hear you. I'm with you. I think I might be with you.

Speaker A:

And then we go back and Quiet showering. Oh, this is the worst. The cocaine is after she gets out of the shower and we get the brilliant line from Bloody Mary. I would kill for those.

Speaker B:

What the fuck? What the fuck?

Speaker A:

Yeah, it's so bad. And then Mary sees the steering wheel burn on Quiet's lower back from the earlier fucking she clearly gets jealous and then tells Quiet he'll never pick you over the car.

Speaker B:

Over Evelyn. Yeah.

Speaker A:

Yeah. Which doesn't who cares?

Speaker B:

Who cares?

Speaker A:

In fact, in the notes right here, I put jesus, this is awful.

Speaker B:

You're right.

Speaker A:

And then we're back we're back to Sweet Tooth. And they come out. He's feeling better about whatever. And he comes out of the cell, and all of his followers are dead. And Stone has set up a trap, and they're in the guard tower, and they're going to shoot Sweet Tooth. They're going to shoot him with a sniper rifle. But Stu pushes him out of the way.

Speaker B:

Yeah, well, it's Mike with the sniper rifle, too.

Speaker A:

It is Mike and two other cops.

Speaker B:

Yeah. Random. Yeah.

Speaker A:

And then Stone's like, all right, Mike, you and a partner go clean up. Double tap everyone. Oh, yeah. And then we're going to leave now because job well done. Oh, yeah. And of course, Mike sees Stu, and Stu's forehead is a gory mess.

Speaker B:

It's blood everywhere.

Speaker A:

But then, boom. Wouldn't you know it? It's actually not. It's strawberry jam from the peanut butter and jellies earlier, which, again, I think.

Speaker B:

Something was cut out here because he just rubs it and then licks his fingers. But it's not shown that the sandwich got shot. We're just supposed to do the work.

Speaker A:

Yes, absolutely. This show is a hell of a lot of work.

Speaker B:

Yes, it is. Just figuring out what the fuck they're going for.

Speaker A:

And then Sweet Tooth kills the other guy and then is going to kill Mike. But Mike's like it was stone. I'll turn, I'll help, because Mike's a coward. And then Stu, because he's got a soft spot for Mike, is like, don't kill him. He can help us. And we get a brilliant line from a Sweet Tooth of oh, God. It says something to the effect of, you want a pet?

Speaker B:

He's your responsibility.

Speaker A:

You want a pet, you clean up after him. Because you know how I treat Naughty.

Speaker B:

Dogs again reminding the audience that he killed this fucking dog in the first scene. Yeah, just in case they fucking forgot that he's a fucking monster and not in a fun way.

Speaker A:

Yeah, so then we're back, we're back at the nut house and because he's narrating his whole fucking life, john DOE's putting gas in Evelyn. It's dark now.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And he's like oh, the sound of running water always makes me have to pee. Why you would say that out loud, I don't know, but he just whips it out and pissing while he fills up the gas tank and then put.

Speaker B:

That line of dialogue why if the audience doesn't make the connection, it doesn't matter. He starts pouring and then he has to pee and people might be or he makes a face you trust. They ask us to do so much work for the strawberry jam and then they don't trust anyone to do the easy work. It's so fucking.

Speaker A:

He'S pissing and Bloody Mary comes up and he's like oh, whoa. And he's like do you mind? And she's like, no. And then she squats and starts also pissing and in the notes I put here god, this show is so fucking stupid.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

So she's pissing and he is pissing and they're talking and he does the cardinal sin of any mailman and tells her what he's getting paid. Which of course he told quiet. You never do.

Speaker B:

Yes, there were rules. You can't bring weapons and you don't talk about your jobs.

Speaker A:

This is a real chekhov's rules of being a has.

Speaker B:

Like he's like, this is my last job. And she's like what do you like? I ur trope.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah. And of course he goes back into the bar and she is pissed.

Speaker B:

She's pissed.

Speaker A:

And he goes back into the bar because Mr. Slam who has a massive hog is about to smash a watermelon with his hog.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And here again we get an unfunny person's. Don't think I think a joke about a big dick is funny always. Yeah, I think a big dick joke is funny. Here's what's not funny. John Doe goes inside and they're hyping up for Mr. Slam to smash this watermelon with his dick. And then all of a sudden John Doe realizes that everyone is, you know, looking at him because Bloody Mary has betrayed him and told know, oh, we've got to take this, it's too valuable, whatever he's carrying.

Speaker B:

Well, everyone's heard of this job, of this package that was said, it was implied that this is like something that's known in this community that there's a package that you can get your heart's desire or something. I thought maybe I don't think so.

Speaker A:

Who gives a fuck?

Speaker B:

Does it make any difference? Honestly?

Speaker A:

Because the joke is when everyone's coming towards him, he's like, I can't believe you did this. You couldn't have waited 1 minute? And then of course it flashes to Mr. Slam with his huge hog.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Which is again, this is an unfunny person's idea of something that's yes, yes. Get it? Because this is a life or death situation. But he's worried about seeing the show.

Speaker B:

If you really get it.

Speaker A:

Do you get it, though? That's funny.

Speaker B:

Is it?

Speaker A:

Because a normal person wouldn't be thinking about they'd be scared.

Speaker B:

But if you're going to play this joke you set up that he's been looking forward to this dick slam the whole episode, then you maybe get a chuckle. But when it's just random bullshit, you get nothing. You get nothing. Yeah.

Speaker A:

It's super bad. And then John Doe does the old reverse psychology. And it's like, oh, well, who's going to get the package? You guys didn't think of that? So everyone starts fighting everyone. And that's when we get the needle drop of what is it? Party hard by Andrew Wk.

Speaker B:

A beautiful song. Beautiful.

Speaker A:

And we get a very poorly choreographed fight.

Speaker B:

Bar fight, almost. Okay. So I had learned.

Speaker A:

But before the fight starts, we do get to see Mr. Slam smash the.

Speaker B:

Watermelon with his with his cock. Yeah. It's great. So I say what you want, but I've been a big fan of Cobra Kai. And when I was watching, I got so into it.

Speaker A:

Like I like Cobra Kai.

Speaker B:

Yeah. I was watching the behind the scenes stuff. My friend had told me to watch it because he said there was something this interesting thing they were talking about, which is I guess it's an old thing. They've been doing this as a 30s called the cowboy switch, which is like you'll use the actor in a fight scene up until a certain point, and then they will step out of frame. And the person who steps in the frame to take the shot is a stuntman who is dressed exactly like it. But now you're seeing from the back and they were talking about how many they had. It was like 13 cowboy swaps. It's never been done that many times again, much like the cocaine thing we were talking about. I'm not sure they know that you can do that because it was just the actors screaming and swinging their fists like a bunch of fucking idiots. Yeah.

Speaker A:

And fake hitting each other.

Speaker B:

Fake hitting each other. I think some of the characters, because they didn't talk, were stuntmen. That's an old thing. And they're like, we'll just cast stuntmen.

Speaker A:

But like also, all of the weapons are clearly rubber.

Speaker B:

Clearly. They're flopping around.

Speaker A:

This is haunted house level production value.

Speaker B:

Absolutely.

Speaker A:

Haunted house? Like in Thousand Oaks? No, there's a good haunted house in Thousand Oaks. This is like Orange County Haunted house.

Speaker B:

It's just so badly done. And if you look in the background, no one's actually doing anything. It's one of those it's just awful.

Speaker A:

Where they're just like swaying.

Speaker B:

Yeah. Just like grabbing each other and moving back and forth. Like a high school dance.

Speaker A:

Yeah. And then quiet gets Mary on the ground.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And puts her clearly plastic hatchet to her neck. And then we get another trope where Mary's like, do it.

Speaker B:

Do it.

Speaker A:

Fucking do it. Add another scar to the pile. And then she starts crying about how she would have gone anywhere with John Doe if he'd only asked, but he never fucking asked. And then Quiet's like, take some advice. Don't waste a second chance. And gets revenge. Yeah. And then, of course, Bloody Mary gets up and goes to stab her, and then Quiet stabs her in the chest. She dies. Yeah.

Speaker B:

And she dies.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

It's beautiful. By the we the new secret thing is what's in the backpack. The package, I guess. The thing we're supposed to be the reason we're hosting, I guess.

Speaker A:

But I honestly forgot about it.

Speaker B:

I forgot about it, especially, like, during that, like, you needed the thing where someone got it and they started to open it and there was some quick shot of something. You're like, Whoa, what was that? Nope, just a crappy fucking fake fight.

Speaker A:

Yeah. And then Quiet and John Doe embrace, and then they walk out. But before they walk out, mr. Slam is behind the bar and pokes his head out, and Quiet has to get one more quip in and says, Nice. Dong work.

Speaker B:

Yeah, it's funny.

Speaker A:

He gives a thumbs up. Get it?

Speaker B:

The dong work.

Speaker A:

He survives. It's funny.

Speaker B:

It's very funny.

Speaker A:

It's funny. This whole show is just them being like, it's funny.

Speaker B:

It's funny.

Speaker A:

Please laugh.

Speaker B:

Please laugh.

Speaker A:

Funny. And then they get in the car. But first John DOE's like, why don't you drive at least?

Speaker B:

Yeah, because he's been drinking. Yeah.

Speaker A:

And then they drive off. But pit Viper, who did not die in the Hustle and is only in.

Speaker B:

Like, two shots before this.

Speaker A:

Yeah. And has cool secret agent girl hair with a sidekick. Remember sidekicks? She's got a fucking sidekick. Yeah. And texts Agent Stone of where they're going.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And then it's honestly so fucking stupid. Not only could I not track it, I watched it, like, three times to try to write the whole thing down, and I literally could not watch it and transcribe it.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

We get an analogy about trout in a barrel and how the fun part isn't he's like, you know what's the best part about shooting trout in a barrel? Which is insane. He's like, it's not the shooting them, it's the trap trapping them. I literally could not transcribe it. I felt like I was having a fucking stroke.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

It just didn't make any sense. And then he's like, we're going to lay a trap or something. So they're laying a trap. Who gives a shit?

Speaker B:

Okay, first of all, why say trout? You have already broken the cliche.

Speaker A:

The cliche is fish in a barrel.

Speaker B:

Fish. It's fish. It's not fucking trout. So you're already putting people's ears up saying, why did he say trout? So maybe they're not going to quit and then what are you fucking talking about? How are you trapping that's the fun part. Having a barrel filling with water and dumping fish that you've caught somewhere else? Or are you saying the catching them was the fun part? And it's not about fun. That phrase is about ease. What are you fucking talking about? Writer? What the fuck is wrong with you?

Speaker A:

I hate it. I hate it so much.

Speaker B:

I hate it. I fucking hate it. And that's the end of another episode.

Speaker A:

It's so bad.

Speaker B:

It's so bad.

Speaker A:

People were like, oh, my God, twisted metal. And apparently it did go well. And I don't understand. I don't fucking get it. And it's not a matter of me just not liking it, right? There are plenty of shows that I don't like that I get. There are plenty of stupid shows that I still get suits. Sure, that show is dumb as fuck.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

But I get it. I get why people watch it. It's fine. This show.

Speaker B:

Why would anyone it's insulting people's intelligence. It literally is doing that. And yet I don't even know if.

Speaker A:

It'S insulting people's intelligence because it's huffing its own fucking bullshit. It's not insulting my intelligence. I think the people involved in making this show need help. I think we fucked up as a society getting rid of the sanitariums.

Speaker B:

Okay? We need those back. You're saying?

Speaker A:

Yeah. Because not having a place to put those people led us to this show.

Speaker B:

Led us to them becoming fucking writers.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Yeah. It's brutal, dude. It's fucking brutal.

Speaker A:

Yeah. Like, I really hope chat GPT wrote this.

Speaker B:

It has to, right? That's the only thing that can make me believe in anything anymore is if this turns out this was written by AI.

Speaker A:

And even then, if it is Chad GPT, I feel bad for the computer scientist guys. Well, then, what do you think AI is? The future. And if this is the future holy shit. Terminator time.

Speaker B:

Yeah, bring it.

Speaker A:

I'm about to make Skynet become self aware right fucking now.

Speaker B:

Yeah. I don't know what the answer? I don't understand on a karmic level how it is okay that people were paid money to do this. Anyone? The caterer I have a problem with.

Speaker A:

I'm going to do a call to action.

Speaker B:

Okay?

Speaker A:

All you listeners out there, if you think that there is a stupider show currently on television, yeah, and I'm not talking about, like, some deep dive bullshit on YouTube.

Speaker B:

No.

Speaker A:

I'm talking about with the backing of a major network. If there is a more stupid fucking show than this, please let us know on Instagram.

Speaker B:

You have to tell us what it is.

Speaker A:

Because as of right now, I literally can't think of a show worse than this.

Speaker B:

No, I can't either. This is the worst thing. It's the worst thing.

Speaker A:

Remember that show, Titus?

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A:

Them way better than this.

Speaker B:

Way better.

Speaker A:

Way better.

Speaker B:

Yeah, give me the fucking the Geico Caveman television program. I'll watch that 100 times before. I'd like to watch another episode of this.

Speaker A:

Danny Masterson today got sentenced to 30 years for rape.

Speaker B:

Beautiful.

Speaker A:

And I would still rather watch that 70 show than this.

Speaker B:

I'd rather watch that. I don't even know if he's in it. That Netflix, cowboy.

Speaker A:

The Ranch. I've seen every episode.

Speaker B:

Why is it so fake? Why is the outside I know. Because it's shot in the studio. But why is it like, okay, the exterior, quote unquote exteriors are so obviously fake that no one has a problem. Like, people in the audience aren't, like, looking going, that looks really fucking fake. And I can't laugh. It's so fucking fake looking.

Speaker A:

Are we going to do The Ranch podcast?

Speaker B:

We'll make our second episode a week. We'll do a ranch. Fucking watchDOWN. Well, you've already seen it.

Speaker A:

By the way, The Ranch 50 times better than this show.

Speaker B:

I've never been able to even hear a word they say because of this set, because it looks so fucking fake. And even the fire is fake. Everything is fucking fake.

Speaker A:

Yeah, it's still better than this, and it's not particularly close.

Speaker B:

Oh, my God. This is bad. All right, so they got three opportunities left for Manzukas. That's it. I guess he's coming in eight, maybe nine, maybe ten. I don't know. Maybe he's calypso. Who knows? The Voice did sound like a name actor.

Speaker A:

Absolutely not.

Speaker B:

If we see Calypso, I don't fucking know. I don't fucking care. We didn't even get to go inside New Chicago, which I was kind of hoping they would do something fun with. But they don't do anything fun.

Speaker A:

Well, they spend about 15 minutes in after effects making the Comp of New Chicago. It looks fucking terrible.

Speaker B:

And it's, like, completely silent. It's just so weird. It's just so fucking weird.

Speaker A:

It's all bad. Everything's bad. Everything's shit. But you know what's not shit? Our instagram at discrete AirPod So go. Follow us there. You can follow me at funeral. Casual games.

Speaker B:

You got me. At Ian Golding games.

Speaker A:

Speaker B:

Speaker A:

Speaker B:
