Transcript
June 2, 2023.
Speaker B:Fuck.
Speaker A:Discrete air weekly recap explosion. Explosion. Boom.
Speaker B:Whoa.
Speaker A:Trailer guy voice in a world oh, shit. Where I'm still playing Tears of the Kingdom.
Speaker B:I knew it. I knew it.
Speaker A:I know. I mean, that's my life now.
Speaker B:Yeah. Tears of the Kingdom building building things.
Speaker A:In Tears of the Kingdom is my life.
Speaker B:Have you hit that level where it's become an obsession, or was that early?
Speaker A:I don't think it's an obsession.
Speaker B:Oh, interesting.
Speaker A:But you know what? Breath of the Wild, I think I'm on the same trajectory as I was with Breath of the Wild.
Speaker B:Fair enough.
Speaker A:Breath of the wild. I got really into it, and I played it quite a bit, like, regularly, but it didn't become an obsession until I beat it.
Speaker B:Interesting.
Speaker A:Until I beat the story.
Speaker B:Got it.
Speaker A:Once I beat the story, and then it was like, oh, I got to do all the shrine.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:Oh, I got to get all the coral.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Oh, I got to get all the armor. Get that badass spirit tracks armor. Okay, so once I beat it, I haven't beat it yet. I'm slow rolling it. I'm taking in. It took me a week, a full six and a half days to beat Resident Evil Four remake.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And that one, I was really slow rolling it. Wanted to take it all in.
Speaker B:Taking it all in, this guy.
Speaker A:So this game is much longer than that game. I'm just going as slow as possible, living in this wonderful, wonderful world.
Speaker B:Nice. All right. Any new discoveries or anything in it? Anything you're like? I didn't know I could do that. Any of that shit.
Speaker A:Are you it feels like there's nothing you kind of can't do.
Speaker B:Oh, that's fucking amazing.
Speaker A:I know. I watched the TikToks of the people building crazy shit, and I'm like, I would never even thought of that.
Speaker B:Okay. Nice.
Speaker A:I saw one the other day. It was like someone built a tank and just, like, housed a high Knox without taking any damage because he was a tank.
Speaker B:That's fucking amazing. That's amazing. I can't wait to play this game.
Speaker A:Or people building planes, and it is crazy. I saw someone build a helicopter.
Speaker B:Really? That worked. Wow. That's fucking cool.
Speaker A:It seems wild. The whole thing seems wild.
Speaker B:Very nice. All right, so you're still on that? Yeah, myself.
Speaker A:What have you been playing?
Speaker B:Well, I downloaded. It was on Kotaku. There was a recommendation for if you can't wait for Diablo Four. Here's a game pass game called Ghost Lore, which plays very similarly. It's indie. It's very small. It's very short. But I did download it, and I am having a little bit of fun. Listen, it's not Diablo Four. The polish is not there. The graphics are shit, but it's scratching. That itch right now. Until Diablo Four comes out for me, like, I'm really having fun with it.
Speaker A:Are you hyped for Diablo Four?
Speaker B:Yeah, I'm hyped. For Diablo Four.
Speaker A:Did you see the IGN review? It got a nine.
Speaker B:No, I did not see that. Oh, boy.
Speaker A:This is turning out to be a wild year for games.
Speaker B:Yeah, it is. This year you were talking about Game of the Year, and the Resident Evil Four this year is going to be fucking and it's what? So it's June 2 right now. And think about the games that have come out and think about what's still to come. We got starfield. Maybe. We got Spiderman's. We got all these fucking games that are going to be in the conversation.
Speaker A:Most likely for Bill Spiderman accounting simulation.
Speaker B:Yeah, I can't wait for that. But yeah, ghostler is cute. Like, it's a game that as soon as Diablo Four comes out, I'm probably never going to pick up again. It is what it is. Just smashy, smashy, kill things. Just walking around dungeons. I'm enjoying it. They have a system, the Glyph system, which I'm actually kind of liking, which is kind of creative, which is like, think about the Resident Evil Four inventory, where you have to tetris stuff. So there are glyphs that take up one square, and then there are, like, super glyphs that take up that are like tetris pieces. And there are certain things. So it's like when you get the Superglifs, it's about placing as many as you can, and then, oh, I can fit a single glyph here. And, like, superpowering a dude. I think because it's an indie game, or fairly indie, at least. It might be one of those games that I can find a way to completely break with a build of the right combination of powers, which is my favorite fucking thing in the world in any game. So I'm looking forward to maybe another week of that.
Speaker A:I am super stoked for Diablo Four, of course. In fact, I think I'm fairly certain I'm going to be taking a break from Tears of the Kingdom.
Speaker B:Whoa. Okay.
Speaker A:Next week when Diablo Four comes out.
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker A:Comes out on my birthday.
Speaker B:Yeah. The Devil's day. The devil's. Six Devil's Day.
Speaker A:And I mean, I've been playing Diablo longer than I've been playing Zelda.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:My first Zelda game was win waker.
Speaker B:Okay. Yeah.
Speaker A:And I've been playing Diablo since. Diablo one.
Speaker B:Wow. Beginning it on switch.
Speaker A:No, I preordered on PS Five.
Speaker B:Okay. I thought about just going switch, like.
Speaker A:Right off the I thought about going switch, too, because Diablo Three is so or Diablo. Yeah, Diablo, three is so much fun. On switch.
Speaker B:Perfect. On switch.
Speaker A:It's like the perfect. Yeah. I've purchased Diablo three, probably five times.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:On PC originally. On PS four. On PS four. Again to get the Reaper souls right. But I think PS Five, I just want to see what they did graphically. And those cinematics are so wild. Yeah, that's true.
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker A:Laser just knocks it out of the park for that.
Speaker B:I'm really thinking about doing Switch just because I don't know. I have such fond memories of Diablo Three on there. And I'm just like, I want to keep that going. So we'll see when we get coming. I didn't preorder, so I'm going to be able to decide night before and then do the pre load or whatever. But probably going to be switch. Maybe PS Five.
Speaker A:I think it's going to be like, did you play the beta?
Speaker B:I did not.
Speaker A:So I think the beta was really fun. It was very clear that Necromancer was broken.
Speaker B:Broken. Absolutely.
Speaker A:Super broken. So it'd be interesting to see how they balance that. But there has been an incredible amount of great games this year already. And some of them, especially with Switch, some of these remakes or Remasters, they're doing Metroid Prime. Remaster was perfect.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker A:No notes. Advance wars.
Speaker B:It's great.
Speaker A:The remaster advanced war is fucking perfect.
Speaker B:It's perfect.
Speaker A:So good.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:I couldn't believe it.
Speaker B:Yeah, it's perfect.
Speaker A:I'm excited for Disney Illusion. I want to play that. I preordered that.
Speaker B:Okay. That looks pretty. Why not? Why not?
Speaker A:Have you been watching anything there's, like any new TV news?
Speaker B:I mean, I've watched, like, all the big finales. Secession, Barry, and last night, Ted Lasso. Oh, my God. I'd say the winner was Secession. That was the best one. And then Barry.
Speaker A:I have seen exactly one episode of Secession.
Speaker B:Oh, you'd love it. You would fucking love it. It's your show. I know.
Speaker A:I was waiting for it to end. Now I'm going to binge it.
Speaker B:Yeah, it's fucking fantastic. It was a great, perfect, perfect ending. I thought the Barry ending was pretty good.
Speaker A:I haven't seen the end of Barry yet.
Speaker B:I'm just going to say it was pretty good. And the ted lasso. I have a lot of questions about the Ted Lasso finale, but whatever.
Speaker A:I have lots of opinions on Ted Lasso. I like Bill Lawrence.
Speaker B:Sure.
Speaker A:I'm a fan of scrubs.
Speaker B:Sure.
Speaker A:But this I don't know. Do you think it'd be apt to call Ted Lasso emotion porn?
Speaker B:Oh, yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker A:People are just watching this and metaphorically beating off that. There are people on this show that have good friendships and people care about them, and it's like each other.
Speaker B:Yeah. And there's not cynicism. Yeah, absolutely. That's what it is.
Speaker A:But to the point where it's like some of it you're like, oh, come on. When the episode where Keeley's nude video goes, oh, my God, gets leaked, and all the guys in the soccer room are like, oh, shit.
Speaker B:Did.
Speaker A:Late moy news. It's like, that fucking would never. That just was so out of reality. That just nonsense because nobody learns a lesson. And another podcast. Chapo trap house recently delved into Ted lasso a little bit. And they brought up a good point that that show cannot let any tension sit.
Speaker B:No, it's got to be immediately.
Speaker A:It's immediately resolved. And that's true. I mean, it's like, four episodes into the first season when what's her name? Is it Vanessa? The Game of Thrones lady? The boss.
Speaker B:Oh, Rebecca.
Speaker A:Rebecca, just like, straight up is like, Ted, I hired you to fail.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Not to mention, the premise is goofy as shit as it is. Why would they ever hire, like, an American football coach? That sounds silly.
Speaker B:I think I can appreciate that a bit. That was filmed as commercials because NBC got the World Cup. Yeah. Could become what it became, which is three season, very popular, had its moment show. I love the first two seasons. I love the first season.
Speaker A:I don't hate the show at all.
Speaker B:No. But I felt like season three was just it was one of those things where they had been saying in the press, our story is three parts. We're going to tell a three part story, and season three is the third part. And then they got there, and they were like they had a couple of cards on the wall. And they're like, what do you mean we have to do eleven episodes? Can't we do one TV movie? Because it just felt like they were like, all right, we got to move people away to bring them back, to end it the way we've always envisioned. And it's just like I don't know. I had big issues with the season. I have bigger issues with the finale. But it's still an enjoyable show. It's better than fucking 90, 80% maybe, of the shit out there.
Speaker A:Yeah. One thing that bugged me, and it seemed to be the most teased out storyline of the whole goddamn show was Nate.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Because it's like, okay, he's a dickhead, right? And he keeps on like, when Ted shows up at the game with his kid, there's the opportunity for him to he feels bad and is given the opportunity to maybe, I don't know, act differently and just continuously acts like a piece of shit until the end. And it's like, this is an unbelievable turnaround.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker A:Because at every other opportunity, he's chosen to do the wrong thing. So why would I believe that he would quit just because Rupert took him to a swinger's club or whatever the fuck?
Speaker B:Well, the actor who played him wrote, like, this fucking 20 page explanation of character or something on Twitter and, like, disgusting, like, 90% of the stuff. And this is my problem with the season. Everything happened off camera, and it's like, yeah, I get it, subtext. You can deny us the big moments. It's about the reaction, the big moments. But I'm a TV watcher guy. I'm not privy to the inside of your head. I'm not privy to any of this. There are things I want to see, so I want to see him quit. What was that like? It's just like they take away these big moments because they feel like, oh, they don't matter. But I don't know. It feels like they just got a little too out of they just lost their way a little bit.
Speaker A:Yeah. And they tried to add so many big moments with so many characters that they fumble the bag on so many of them.
Speaker B:Absolutely.
Speaker A:Like when.
Speaker B:Oh, my God.
Speaker A:When the guy from Kenya, his dad comes to town.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:That was not a satisfying episode to me at all. It's like, what the fuck?
Speaker B:I know.
Speaker A:And there are also things like there are weird callbacks.
Speaker B:Dude, the finite finale are like nothing.
Speaker A:But callback are nothing, are meaningless. Like the second or third to last episode when she spits the tea in his face.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:And she's like, it's tradition. I'm like, did this fucking happen before? I don't remember this. Is this a thing?
Speaker B:Yeah, it was written for the Rfucking, Ted Lasso on Reddit, where people put reaction gifs and stuff. And it's like some of us have watched it and enjoyed it, but Vanessa has watched it. My wife's watched it with me, but isn't as online as I am, so I had to keep explaining to her, oh, the coach of West Ham, the new coach is the guy who used to be the coach of Richmond who was fired for Ted. It's like all these things.
Speaker A:Fuck, really? I didn't even know.
Speaker B:Yeah, the guy with the balls. Like, that was one of the first scenes. It was like he put his leg up when he was talking to Rebecca and his balls were showing. It's just like you need a fucking encyclopedia or like a sheet, a cheat sheet to watch an episode of TV. And it's like, that ain't worth it to me.
Speaker A:And it also seems like they're kind of, like, assuming that this has sort of the same cultural relevance as something like The Office, where people have seen it a million times. I've never rewatched a single episode of Tesla, and I don't particularly want to. There's nothing calling me to rewatch that in five years.
Speaker B:It'll be like, oh, I'll rewatch that. And then you'll binge a season in an afternoon. You'll be like, oh, that's a cute show. But it's not changing anything.
Speaker A:There's diminishing returns on that show.
Speaker B:Something that does not have diminishing returns is the two nights ago, the third season of I Think You should Leave dropped.
Speaker A:Oh, my fucking God.
Speaker B:Gorgeous.
Speaker A:I cannot wait to sue Tim Robinson. For what? For giving me a hernia from laughing so hard.
Speaker B:Which sketch?
Speaker A:Oh, my God. Driving crooner, man. Fucking killed me.
Speaker B:Holy fuck. Did that kill me? We had to stop it. I get this thing where I'll laugh so hard that I fear for my fucking life. Like, I can't breathe. And Vanessa, having been dating for five years now, she knows it, so she'll stop something because it's the build. If it keeps going, I laugh. So she, like, held the road. She stopped it right when he was doing The Crooner Man thing. I almost fucking died, man. So ridiculous.
Speaker A:Oh, my God. The drive through. I'm trying to do something.
Speaker B:55 burgers, 55 fries. 55 so fucking good. God, that show is genius.
Speaker A:Oh, my God. Funniest show on TV.
Speaker B:Absolutely. I don't know anymore, but the one that literally I lost consciousness for half a second, laughing was Brian's Hat from season I think it's season two. Oh, yes.
Speaker A:When he's in court. Did you see Brian's hat? What the fuck is it? It's like a Fedora with safari.
Speaker B:And the part when I think it's I remember the moment where I laugh so hard is like when she's describing the boardroom thing. And then he said, moo moo or something. And then they cut to Brian in the courtroom. He's like, don't do the voice. And I fucking lost it. Like, I could not fucking handle it.
Speaker A:When he's kicking the dice over to the guy. Fucking stop it.
Speaker B:Fucking leave it. All right?
Speaker A:Holy shit.
Speaker B:That show is good. We have not finished.
Speaker A:The one that gets me is the hot dog car.
Speaker B:Of course.
Speaker A:Hot dog car. And coffin flop.
Speaker B:Coffin flop. The one with the Baby knows I'm a Piece of shit is fucking next level because it ends with a goddamn music video with, like, an original song. Like, oh, my God. Here's the thing about the show that I think is underrated. I will watch a sketch and be like, that was all right. And then I'll watch it later and suddenly it's the funniest fucking thing. Like that one.
Speaker A:Absolutely.
Speaker B:I did not love that sketch. The first time I saw it, I came back, it was like a year later. I watched it again. I was like I was on the floor laughing. Fucking genius.
Speaker A:Got it. Sloppy steaks.
Speaker B:Sloppy.
Speaker A:Oh, my fucking God.
Speaker B:Sloppy steak. Supposedly, there are, like, places where people are saying, please don't do sloppy steaks. Like actual restaurants. Like, come on. It's too good.
Speaker A:I love it. The Garfield house.
Speaker B:That is amazing. We could do a fucking podcast. But I think you should leave. I will.
Speaker A:Absolutely. It would just be me saying, like, let's find the guy who did this and spank him and then let him go on his way.
Speaker B:Oh, my fucking God.
Speaker A:It's very funny watching all because I mean, what's? It tim Robinson used to be on SNL. And it's funny watching people that were on SNL, like Fred Armison or the guy fuck, I forget his name. The guy from the Friends group sketch. The other SNL guy start doing these kind of sketches when it's like, you didn't appreciate these sketches when they were on SNL. You didn't pieces of shit.
Speaker B:You didn't fight for these to get on air.
Speaker A:Sweet.
